LEARN how to use MINDFULNESS to reduce stress, manage thoughts, bring greater wellbeing including life satisfaction, self-confidence and the ability to respond more skilfully to everyday situations.

The ‘Mindful Teacher’ Program is a 4-week introductory program to begin this mindfulness practice development. This beginner level program, is designed specifically for teachers/ educators, however it would also be useful for any adult who works or interacts in settings with children. The course includes a balance of learning about mindfulness and practical applications with time to practice.

Mindfulness research is showing reductions in teacher stress, burnout and anxiety, improved ability to manage thoughts, an increase in coping skills, better mental health, greater wellbeing, including life satisfaction, self-confidence, self-efficacy, self-compassion and sense of personal growth, increased cognitive performance, including the ability to pay attention and focus, make decisions and respond flexibly to challenges. 

The course includes:
- An introduction to mindfulness & meditation
- Mindfulness techniques: different practices will be taught each week including using the breath, awareness of body, becoming more heart-centred, mindfulness of feelings, thoughts & emotions
- Simple neuroscience of mindfulness (why it works) 
- Becoming more mindful in your life/workload balance
- Identifying emotional responses and ways to create calm in difficult situations
- Nurturing self-compassion for yourself and the people you interact with
- Toolbox : 5 minute mindfulness practices for anywhere, anytime
- Discussion opportunities each week to share experiences and ask questions


Program dates: Starts Wednesday 16 Aug, for 4 consecutive weeks
Time: 7.00 - 8.30pm (Adelaide time).

Online Classes: This program is a live Online Zoom Class. A link to the class will be sent upon booking. We will use the same link each week.

Frequently asked Questions

Who is this PD for?

The 4 week program will include practical applications for using mindfulness everyday in our own lives, and in the schools, preschools and centres that we work in. While the program has been created for teachers, school support officers, child care workers, leaders and other educators, it is beneficial to anyone working with children/ students or support roles.

I’m not an educator, can I still join?

Yes absolutely! While the PD will focus on using mindfulness within an educational setting and with students, this information can easily be transferred to any workplace, or working with adults.

Do I need to have experience with mindfulness already?

The intention of the program is provide knowledge and practical application of mindfulness for everyone. It is suitable for complete beginners or those with more experience.

What if I can’t make a class online?

It is preferred that participants join each weekly class live, but we understand that things sometimes this may not be possible. If you miss a class we will send you a link to the recording. You will have one week access to watch the recording.

Can I claim this program as a tax deduction?

Teachers and educators working with children are able to claim our courses as professional learning for full tax deductions. Other professions, please check with your tax agent.

Will a certificate for professional hours be provided?

Yes, all participants will receive a certificate for 6 hours professional learning.

About Jan Carey

Jan Carey is a trained teacher with over 30 years experience in primary and secondary schools. Jan’s interest in mindful practices began 15 years ago, and evolved to include; international training in the .b mindfulness program in the UK, the Mindful Schools Mindfulness Fundamentals course, Mindful Educator Course and the Mindful Instructor Certification training in New York.

Jan has spent signifiant time in India over the past 8 years immersing herself into various meditation and spiritual practices. She attended silent retreats in Nepal, Dharamsala and Bodhgaya, and has made numerous pilgrimages to sacred locations across India.

Jan most previously worked in the Education Department as a Policy Officer in Mental Health & Wellbeing. Her vision is to bring mindfulness and self-awareness practices to all who seek to develop a deeper knowing of Self.
