Wild Stillness Bali
A Mixed Media Journey through Nature, Culture and Presence
Dates: 6 - 10 July 2026 (4 nights/5days)
Location: Ubud, Bali
Facilitator: Jan Carey, Director - Centre for Mindful Education. Author – Wild Stillness: A Journey into Mindfulness, Creativity, and the Sacred Wisdom of Nature
Journey: Wild Stillness Bali is an invitation to meet Bali through the lived experience of nature, culture, and presence — a journey shaped not by how much you see, but by how deeply you listen, feel, and engage with the land and its rhythms.
Guided by the Wild Stillness approach, this journey invites you to slow down and enter Bali through the hands, the senses, and the everyday rituals that quietly carry meaning. Through a gentle, mixed-media creative practice — working with watercolours, simple paints, drawing tools, natural mark-making materials, fibres, fabric, and handmade papers — you are invited to explore creativity as a way of connecting with place. Traditional Balinese textures and materials sit alongside intuitive art-making, allowing the land and culture to guide what emerges on the page.
Across five days in Ubud, you will be held by the textures of daily life — the scent of offerings placed at doorways, the patient repetition of skilled hands at work, the sound of water moving through rice fields, the richness of colour, metal, cloth, and earth. Time spent outdoors in gardens, beside the river, and within temple spaces flows naturally into moments of creative response, where journalling and mixed-media exploration become ways of gathering, reflecting, and noticing. Creativity arises not from instruction or outcome, but from presence, curiosity, and connection.
More than a retreat or cultural tour, Wild Stillness Bali is a slow, embodied journey — a space to reconnect with your creative spirit and experience how place itself can awaken expression. Through making without pressure, experimenting with materials, and responding to the culture and landscape that surrounds you, the everyday becomes sacred. Presence is no longer something you practise, but something you live — and carry with you long after the journey ends.
What are Wild Stillness Journeys?
Wild Stillness Journeys are immersive journeys designed to slow you down and bring you fully into the present moment — not through retreating from the world, but by stepping more deeply into it.
At the heart of Wild Stillness Journeys is the understanding that mindfulness and self-awareness are not separate from the world around us. They are shaped through place, through culture, through the rhythm of daily life, and through moments of genuine connection. Each journey blends reflective practices with hands-on creative experiences, storytelling, cultural immersion, and time to simply notice what arises when you slow down and listen.
Every tour is intentionally paced and thoughtfully curated, allowing space for reflection, creativity, and rest, while also offering rich encounters with the land and its stories. The focus is not on ticking off destinations, but on experiencing each place with depth, respect, and presence

Professional Development & Tax Considerations
This five-day journey is grounded in mindfulness through nature, creativity, and embodied practice. For therapists, wellbeing practitioners, educators and school leaders, the experiences offered throughout the retreat translate naturally into classroom, wellbeing, and whole-school contexts, particularly where mindfulness, wellbeing, creativity, or nature-based learning are part of your professional practice.
Many participants choose to attend Wild Stillness journeys as a form of professional development, as the approaches explored can be adapted for use with students, staff, or school communities. In some cases, this may make the retreat tax deductible as a professional development expense. As individual circumstances vary, we recommend checking with your accountant or financial advisor to confirm eligibility.
